Recognized for Excellence: Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, and Campbell County Public Schools each have high schools recognized as Distinguished by the Virginia Department of Education, reflecting the region’s shared commitment to academic achievement and student success.

Career & College Readiness: Every school division offers robust Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs that prepare students for high-demand careers through hands-on learning and industry-recognized credentials. Bedford County Public Schools and Campbell County Public Schools offer these opportunities through dedicated CTE centers—the Susie G. Gibson Science & Technology Center and the Campbell County Technical Center. Every school division also has dual enrollment seats in the Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) CTE Academy, and students from across the region can apply to attend the XLR8 STEM Academy on CVCC’s campus.

Diverse Learning Opportunities: Lynchburg City Schools serves nearly 8,000 students in Pre-K–12 and is home to one of Virginia’s most diverse student populations. Students also benefit from championship-caliber athletics, and additional college and career support from Beacon of Hope Future Centers.
