As part of its regional workforce roadmap, the Lynchburg Regional Business Alliance strategically coordinates partnerships between local businesses, higher education, and career training centers — strengthening career pathways in nuclear technology and energy.

One standout option is Framatome’s Nuclear Technology Academy, developed with Central Virginia Community College. It’s a synchronous, earn-while-you-learn program where participants work as Framatome employees while earning an associate degree in Nuclear Technology. Whether you’re a recent high school graduate or a career-changer seeking an apprenticeship, this program provides both classroom and hands-on training for those interested in ensuring a clean energy future.

There’s also strong alignment between BWX Technologies and Liberty University School of Engineering, which places a clear emphasis on energy-focused programs. Framatome has partnered with Liberty as well, helping create direct career pathways from the classroom into the industry.

Looking to get into mechanical engineering or robotics? Sweet Briar College and Randolph College offer robust programs, with the latter having recently received a $686,340 Go Virginia grant to expand its mechanical engineering program.

CVCC’s Nuclear Technology Associates degree program also provides in-class and practical hands-on training in basic maintenance, electricity, engineering, programming, and related skills. Students that complete the program are well-prepared for entry-level technician positions in the nuclear energy field.
